The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the pioneering educational institutions in and outside of the university. The long list of achievements ranging from organization of premium research conferences and programming contests to personal accomplishment attained by the students and faculty members of the department is a strong proof of efficacy and dedication of the department towards achieving higher standard of education and organizational management.
Achieving educational excellence has always been the department’s primary concern. Nevertheless, the department is also focused on multitudes of supplementary activities including programming contests, sports, cultural extravaganzas and organization of research conferences and seminars. By tradition, the department is consistently improving in pursuit of excellence in these areas through diligence and commitment.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) in 2001. This is a regularly held conference where industries and academia exchange up-to-date knowledge and experience in different fields of Computer Science/Engineering and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ICCIT began with National Conference on Computer and Information Systems (NCCIS), an initiative by Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain and Dr. Md. Lutfar Rahram of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 1997. It has since flourished in to one of the most significant yearly event in the ICT arena of Bangladesh.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized the National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) for the first time. This event was also the first to introduce “NCPC for Female Students” where all the team members were females. The 3 day event consisted of a mock contest, “NCPC (Women Only)” and the NCPC itself. A total of 50 teams participated in “NCPC (Women Only)”. 78 teams from more than 40 different universities participated in the NCPC. CSEDU teams claimed Championship in both “NCPC (Women Only)” and NCPC beating all the prominent universities including BUET, SUST, JU, NSU, etc. The event was a major success and much appreciated by the participants.
This NCPC was hosted by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). A total of 60 teams participated in the competition. CSEDU-A won the contest solving 4 out of 8 problems. The team consisted of Monirul Islam Sharif, Md. Julius Hossain and Kazi Golam Zilani of B.Sc 2nd Batch, CSEDU. This was the first instance of CSEDU winning such a prestigious contest.
DU Gryffindor received Honorable Mention in ICPC World Finals held in Texas in 2006. DU Gryffindor members were Quazi Sarfaraz Hussain, Arif Siddiquee and Mainul Islam of B.Sc 7th Batch.
DU Dark Knights finished 49th in ICPC World Finals held in Stockholm in 2009. DU Dark Knight members were Syed Zubair Hossain of B.Sc. 8th Batch, Jane Alam Jan of B.Sc 10th batch and Iqram Mahmud from Department of Mathematics.
This event was hosted by Islamic University of Technology. Inter university programming contest is a part of their yearly ICT FEST. A total of 62 teams participated from more than 30 different universities throughout the country. DU Resonance won the contest solving 6 problems with a margin of 1 problem. They dominated the whole contest and emerged champions. Team members were Anna Fariha, Md. Shiplu Hawlader and Hasnain Heickal of B.Sc 13th Batch, CSEDU. This was the first championship for DU Resonance in a national programming contest.
The event was hosted by the University of Dhaka. 78 teams from more than 40 different universities participated in this NCPC. DU Resonance claimed Championship beating all the other teams from BUET, DU, SUST, JU, etc. Team members were Anna Fariha, Md. Shiplu Hawlader and Hasnain Heickal of B.Sc 13th Batch, CSEDU. The team solved 6 out of 10 problems. This NCPC win came after an 11 year wait after the legendary win of CSEDU-A in NCPC 2000.
The event was hosted by the University of Dhaka. 50 teams from more than 25 different universities participate in the NCPC (Women Only). This event was part of the 3 day NCPC and first of its kind to be held in Bangladesh. DU Felicity claimed Championship beating all the other teams from BUET, DU, SUST, JU, etc. Team members of this team were Anna Fariha, Farzana Sharmin Farah and Kaynat Quayyum of B.Sc 13th Batch, CSEDU. The team solved 6 out of 8 problems.
DU Angry Birds and DU Incendio finished as Champions in BGC Trust Inter University Programming Contest held in 2012. DU Angry Birds Members were Hasnain Heickal of B.Sc 13th batch, Zobayer Hasan and Muhammad Ridowan of B.Sc 15th batch. DU Incendio Members were Momontho Mashak Monmoy, Shafaet Ashraf and Bidhan Roy of B.Sc 16th batch.
DU B finished as Champions in IUT ICT FEST, 2013. The members were Zobayer Hasan, Muhammad Ridowan of B.Sc 15th Batch and Momontho Mashak Monmoy of B.Sc 16th Batch.
DU Avengers finished as Champions in IUT ICT FEST held in 2014. The members were Muhammad Ridowan of B.Sc 15th batch, Bidhan Roy and Rashedul Hasan Rijul of B.Sc 16th batch.
DU Avengers finished as Champions in QAAIPC held in 2014. The members were Muhammad Ridowan of B.Sc 15th batch, Bidhan Roy and Rashedul Hasan Rijul of B.Sc 16th batch.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering claimed Championship in the Inter Department Cricket Tournament held in 2009.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering claimed Championship in the Inter Club Debate Competition held in 2011.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering became Runner - Up in the Inter Department Football Tournament held in 2014.
Monirul Islam Sharif (B.Sc., 1995 – 1996) was awarded Gold Medal for brilliant academic performance.
Protik Mohammad Hossain (B.Sc., 1998 –1999) was awarded Gold Medal for brilliant academic performance.
